Julie Torgerson of rural Decorah runs Noah's Bark Animal Rescue, a nonprofit organization committed to saving the lives of animals that would otherwise be destroyed.
Julie says Noah's Bark is in need of donations during the holidays. She says toys, food, bedding, leashes, collars, food dishes, garbage bags, shredded paper and laundry supplies can be dropped off at Red's IGA and Mullqueen's Hardware in Spring Grove through the end of December.
She says, "The types of food we use here are usually Beneful by Purina, Pedigree or regular Diamond in the red bag. Purina puppy chow is the type of puppy food we use."
The animal shelter is also looking for donations to pay for medical care and supplies. Donations can be sent to Noah's Bark Animal Orphanage, 3874 County Road W 20, Decorah, Iowa 52101.
Torgerson says she currently has in the shelter 8 week old Boxer mix puppies, 6 week old border collie/lab puppies, 9 week old German shep mix pups, one 3 year old male basset hound, 6 month old female yellow lab, (2) female chihuahua mix- one 2 years old and one 8 months old purebred chihuahua and one male chihuahua mix, (2) female yorkshire terriers 3 years old, 3 year old male boxer, 7 year old golden retriever, (3) Italian Greyhound pups and four adult Italian Greyhounds, dachund mix puppy, St Bernard mix pup.
She says, "If anyone wants to see them...they need to call me for information on the animals, viewing times and appointments. I do only go by appointment only because that's the only way I can handle running this place with going to school full time."
