Winter woes

This was a good weekend to stay inside.

A major storm system blew into Decorah from the west on Saturday, dropping 10 to 11 inches of snow by the time it was done.  Yet with all the cancellations and postponements the storm caused in Decorah, it could have been worse.

The National Weather Service Office in La Crosse says Waukon received 13 inches of snow, as did Caledonia.  La Crescent received 17.3 inches of snow, while Black River Falls got 21.6 inches during the snowstorm.

Amazingly, the Black River Falls snowfall total wasn't the highest in the area.  The National Weather Service says a weather station at the dam in Winona, Minnesota--just 68 miles north of Decorah--received 26.0 inches of snow from the snowstorm.
