Nearly 100 people participated in the first annual Holiday Lights Magical Nights 5k walk/run on Thursday. Officials at Helping Services, which sponsored the event at the Decorah Campground, say they are pleased with the turnout.
Due to an icy trail, the 5k was held in the campground, with runners completing six laps. The route was a hit with parents who were concerned with safety and the route going through town.
The Ken and Carol Wiltgen family from Ossian won the prize for largest group, with 9 members. The Harlan and Sonja Satrom Family from Decorah won the prize for best costumes. Parker Beard of Decorah had the best time, finishing in 20.10. Laura Cunningham had the best time among women, finishing in 23.14.
