Decorah High School has named Ben Bernatz as the recipient of the Norman C. Bradish Scholarship for the 2010-11 school year. Ben is the son of Richard and Dodi Bernatz of Decorah.
Norman Bradish created a scholarship to go to a male graduate of Decorah High School who possesses high academic ability and curiosity, is liked by peers and adults and displays high standards of character. The recipient must agree to attend a college outside the state of Iowa. It must be a non-religious institution, and the student must remain unmarried until finishing his studies.
Ben has not finalized his plans for college but is interested in attending Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Ben has been active in Orchestra and Mock Trial. He has taken challenging coursework at the high school and in post-secondary enrollment classes offered through Luther College and Northeast Iowa Community College. Ben has long possessed an interest in politics and government and plans to major in political science and economics, then pursue a career in a related field.
