Decorah property owner Kay Strand has requested a jury trial on the charges against her that she is in violation of the city's property maintenance ordinance.  The charge is a misdemeanor with a maximum fine of $250.

The Decorah City council voted 7-0 in October to have City Attorney Rick Zahasky file a simple misdemeanor against Strand in connection with a house and garage at 701 Maple Street.

City officials have been working with Strand for over two years to get repairs made at her property.  She has taken steps recently to improve her house and garage.  Now a jury will be asked starting on January 6th to determine whether Strand has done enough or whether she the steps she has taken were inadequate.
