Downtown Decorah Betterment Association representatives say their group is ready to start public fundraising for the Norm Smith Plaza, a new pocket park that will be built along Water Street next to the Oneota Co-op.
DDBA officials Chris Miller and Paul Scott appeared before the Decorah City Council on Monday night to make sure city officials had no questions before the fund drive began. The park will be built on city-owned property, although it will not use any city funds for construction.
Chris Miller told city officials that DDBA has raised almost half of the $95,000 expected budget for the project. City council members indicated they are still in support of the project. In May the city council gave its general support to the concept. On November 29th at 6:00 p.m. the city's Street Committee will meet with DDBA representatives to review the details of the project.
