Decorah Covenant Church has a new pastor.  Rev. Don Holmertz comes to Decorah from Stillman Valley, Illinois, where he had served as senior pastor of Valley Evangelical Covenant Church since 1990.

Pastor Holmertz received his Bachelors degree from North Park University, majoring in Speech/Drama and Urban Studies.  He studied at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA and later completed a Masters of Divinity from North Park Seminary.

During his years in Stillman Valley, Holmertz was also the Fire Department Chaplain, Boy Scout Troop Committee Chair, served on two long-range facility planning committees for the school district, acted in the community theatre, and helped with production of the high school musical.

Rev. Holmertz and his wife Deanne have been married for 31 years and have two children.

He becomes the fourth minister in the history of Decorah Covenant Church, which was founded in 2000.  The congregation celebrated worship services for several years in the St. Benedict School gymnasium before moving to their new location at Washington Plaza in the former Decorah Bank building.
