Luther College will compete in a nationwide electricity and water use reduction competition starting Monday.
Campus Conservation Nationals will run through November 19th. It will involve students from 40 leading colleges and universities across North America. The goal is to achieve the greatest resource reductions in residence halls over a three-week period. Institutions competing with Luther during the competition include Brown University, Columbia University, the Ohio State University, the University of California San Diego and the University of British Columbia
Alliance to Save Energy, Lucid Design Group and the National Wildlife Federation designed the competition to encourage dorm energy competitions. Participating schools will be able to instantly compare their performance and track the standings among the leading schools and buildings using Lucid Design Group's Building Dashboard, a website the instantly shares the campus' electricity and water use.
"We are excited to be part of the first nationwide competition to reduce electricity and water usage in residential halls on campus," said Luther College sustainability coordinator Dan Bellrichard. "This will be a great way for the Luther community to learn and practice conservation techniques that can be done by anyone in their daily life."
