The amount of federal Pell Grant funds received by NICC students has doubled.
NICC district-wide director of financial aid Jeff Murphy says last year, NICC students received $8,474,546 in Pell Grant funds. That's up from $4,427,417 the previous year.
Murphy says one of the reasons for the increase in federal aid is a change at the federal level that allows year-round aid. Previously summer sessions were excluded. The amount of aid awarded has also increased because NICC students showed greater financial need.
Over 84 percent of NICC students receive some type of financial aid to attend the college. NICC students received a total of $26,164,662 in 2009-2010 from grants, loans, work study assignment, and scholarships.
