The Iowa State Patrol has announced that a motorcyclist has died of injuries he received in a police chase on Saturday.
19-year-old Dexter Lange of Farmersburg was chased by police after he was spotted around 3:00 a.m. Saturday running a stop sign on his motorcycle in the city of Ossian. Lange did not stop for the police officer, but fled at a high rate of speed. The motorcycle failed to make a curve on Highway 52 and entered the north ditch. It then struck the railroad tracks, with Lange being thrown from the motorcycle.
The Postville Ambulance took Lange to Winneshiek Medical Center. Lange was then transferred to St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, where he died.
The incident is still under investigation. The Iowa State Patrol says Lange was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the chase and accident.
