Winneshiek Energy District sells a carbon offset

Winneshiek Energy District has established a local carbon offset program and has sold $5,000 of those offsets to Decorah Bank and Trust.

The funds will be used to purchase supplies such as compact florescent light bulbs and weatherstripping materials for installation by the Winneshiek Energy District's Energy Corps team.  

The Winneshiek Energy District will be hosting a team of Americorps volunteers in Decorah starting in October. The "Energy Corps" teams will be trained in weatherization and the direct installation of simple residential efficiency measures

Carbon offsets are a market mechanism that allows a purchaser to buy greenhouse gas emission reductions from another party.
