Northeast Iowa Community College Dairy Science students have brought back some trophies from the National Post-Secondary Dairy Judging Contests at the World Dairy Expo.  This year's first and third place national awards are among the best finishes the college has ever achieved.

The NICC teams took the national title in Practical Application and finished in third place in Traditional Dairy Cattle Judging. The students also received numerous individual and team awards. The student teams qualified to advance to the June 2011 International Judging Contest in Scotland.

There were five students on the NICC teams: Tyler Egeland of Ossian, Carly Lyons of Castalia, Devon Chrystal of Delhi, Kourtney Meister of Denver and Jessica Woodard of Winona, Minnesota.

NICC dairy science faculty member Dave Lawstuen, the chair of NICC's dairy operations, said "I was very pleased with this year's results, particularly in Practical Application because the students work as team to problem solve and present orally to a panel of judges...this year's team really gelled as a group."
