Luther College's Distinguished Service Award will be presented to eight alumni on Friday. A ceremony will be held at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Luther Sesquicentennial homecoming celebration.
The Distinguished Service Award is one of the highest honors bestowed by the college. It is given in recognition of success and achievements in professional fields, service to society, contributions to community, as well as loyalty and service to Luther.
The recipients of the 2010 Luther Distinguished Service Awards include 1950 Luther graduate Norm Rosholt of Decorah, a retired vice president of Lutheran Brotherhood.
Others are 1965 Luther graduate Karen (Matthews) Stuart of Larchmont, New York, a retired trader on the NYSE stock exchange; 1970 Luther graduate William Kobler of Rockford, Illinois, a family Physician at OSF Saint Anthony Medical center; 1975 Luther graduate Thomas Helli of McMinnville, Oregon, the president of Linfield College; 1980 Luther graduate Brian Newhouse of Saint Paul, Minnesota, the director of classical music with Minnesota Public Radio; 1980 Luther graduate Scott Hanson of Talladega, Alabama, a Brigadier General in the US Air Force and Commander of the 321st Air Expeditionary Wing; 1985 Luther graduate James Looft of the Czech Republic, a business-administration manager of IBM Corporation; and Lin Schmidt of Anoka, Minnesota, the owner/executive director of Lyric Arts Company, Inc.
