The Decorah City Council on Monday night unanimously voted to make Bill Nixon the city's new Police Chief.
Current Police Chief Tom Courtney is retiring after 29 years with Decorah Police, the last 9 as Police Chief.
Nixon has been with the department for 13 years, serving in a variety of positions, including Assistant Police Chief. In comments Monday night to the city council, Nixon thanked former police chiefs Tom Courtney and Ben Wyatt for giving him a chance to work on the Decorah Police Department. He also praised the "incredibly talented staff" of the police department for their work.
