Ask Mr. Answer Person: A double standard for the city about boulevard ownership?

Rick e-mails Mr. Answer Person: "I just read the article on decorahnews.com "City of Decorah Officials Reminding the Public to Trim Boulevard Trees."  My question is: If I have to trim the trees, is the boulevard MINE?  I'm told I can't put a sign expressing my political views or preferences on the boulevard, because I need to keep it on "private property."  Yet, when it comes to the trees located on city property, I have to trim them.  That seems like a contradiction."

Mr. Answer Person says: Yes, it's a contradiction.  However, it's within the powers of the City of Decorah.  This comes under the heading of "You Can't Fight City Hall."  So trim those trees--even if it makes you grumble!!
