City of Decorah officials reminding the public to trim boulevard trees

It's that time of year again.  The Decorah City Council is reminding property owners of their responsibility to trim boulevard trees.

Trees need to have at least 14 feet of clearance above streets or alleys and eight feet of clearance above sidewalks.  Plantings and brush cannot encroach onto the sidewalk area, either.

City officials are asking property owners to pay particular attention to alleys, as the 14 foot clearance requirement also applies to alleys.  City officials say proper clearance is essential to prevent damage to equipment.

The City of Decorah has scheduled Cleanup Week October 11th through 15th in Decorah.  Decorah Street Department crews will chip branches placed on boulevards during the week.
