Four Winneshiek County farms earn recognition as Century Farms

Four Winneshiek County families have earned Century Farm designation for their farms.  To qualify, a family must have owned at least 40 acres for 100 years or more.

Thomas and Sherri Achen of rural Lawler; Harold and Kristi Hageman of Ossian; Gary and Susan Hovey of Ridgeway; and Robert and Teresa Uhlenhake of Ossian each have received a "Century Farm" certificate and yard sign from the Department of Agriculture and Farm Bureau.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship has partnered with the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation since 1976 to recognize families that have owned and worked a farm for 100 years or more.   Almost 17,000 farms from across the state have received this recognition since the program began.
