Fire does major damage to an apartment complex

The Decorah Fire Department was called out to 706 Maiden Lane just before 5:00 p.m. Thursday.  On arrival of the firefighters, the entire roof of an eightplex apartment building was engulfed in fire.  The fire also spread to the next eightplex apartment building.

Firefighters entered the building and searched all the apartments for any occupants.  All were accounted for.  No injuries were reported.  Some pets were removed from the building.

The fire was attacked from both inside and out and was eventually extinguished.  The damage to the building was extensive.  No dollar amount for damage has been established.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The DFD was assisted by the Calmar Fire Department, Decorah Police Department, Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department, Winneshiek Medical Center Paramedics, The Iowa State Patrol, Alliant Energy, Tri-County Chapter of the American Red Cross and Mark Carolan Construction.
