New mural adds to Water Street appeal

A new mural has been added to the side of the Blue Heron Knittery  at 300 West Water Street in downtown Decorah. The artist, Claire Butchkoski, painted the 8 foot tall by 8 foot wide mural of a blue heron and river scene on the building that is owned by Lee Zook. The space on the corner of the building had a deteriorating plywood sheet and Zook decided to commission an appropriate mural to fill the space.

Claire and Lee consulted and came up with the idea for this mural that seemed to be regionally fitting as well as reinforce the business currently in the building.  When asked why she decided to paint the mural, Claire simply said, "I thought it would be fun."
