Decorah School District students are doing above average on a number of standardized tests. School board members on Monday night heard reports about ACT test results and the district's Annual Progress Report.
Decorah High School students who have taken the ACT college entrance exam scored well above state average. Their composite score of 23.8 was 1.6 points higher than the state average. Decorah HS students did especially well on the ACT English test.
The Annual Progress Report showed the school district met its goal for improvement in math scores by 11th graders. It also met its goal for 5th through 8th grade science assessment scores. However, reading comprehension scores for 2nd through 4th graders actually fell, so school district officials are making changes in classroom instruction.
