City of Decorah halts trial period for flashing red traffic lights at Water and Winnebago

The Decorah City council has voted to suspend a trial period of having a flashing red light at the Water Street/Winnebago Street intersection.  City council members said they had heard some comments about pedestrians having difficulty crossing Water Street because of the flashing red lights.  Decorah business owner Margaret Walter appeared before the city council to state that downtown businesses actually benefit from having traffic stopped at the stop lights.  "We are a commercial business district," she noted.
