Winneshiek County to replace all road signs within ten years

Posted: Tue, Sep 7, 2010 10:07 PM

The federal government has mandated new "sign reflectivity" standards.  They call for all counties in the country to replace every traffic sign on a 10 year schedule.

Winneshiek County Engineer Lee Bjerke says Winneshiek County is among the counties that will be affected.  Bjerke says some road signs currently posted in the county are as old as 30 years.

New signs will be put up throughout the county on a rotating basis.  That means each township will see some new traffic signs each year.  By the end of the ten-year period, all road signs will have been replaced.
