The 17 sheriff's departments and police departments that make up the Northeast Iowa Drug Task Force had a busy year from August 1st of 2009 through July 31st of this year.
Northeast Iowa Task Force members filed 63 felony drug charges during the 12-month period and 186 misdemeanor drug charges. 38 persons were arrested for allegedly manufacturing drugs; 89 for distribution or delivery of controlled substances; and 145 for possession of controlled substances. The drugs involved in the charges included marijuana, cocaine, crack cocaine and several different types of pharmaceutical drugs.
The Task Force also referred two cases to the Iowa Department of Revenue and pone case to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Task Force members executed 30 search warrants, performed 311 searches of homes or vehicles and opened 110 investigations during the 12-month period. Nine of the search warrants executed were for methamphetamine investigations.
5,373 grams of marijuana were seized because of the actions of Task Force members and 1,530 dosages of pharmaceutical drugs.
The Northeast Iowa Drug Task Force report concludes, "We feel the Task Force has a positive effect on our communities...We strive to make our communities a safe and drug-free place to live."
