More about the feud between Winneshiek Medical Center and Gundersen Clinic

My comment about the feuding between Gundersen Clinic and Winneshiek Medical Center, suggesting that it was time for Winneshiek County to end its $400,000 a year subsidy of the hospital, continues to bring a record number of responses.

One detail I'd like to tackle is a fuller, better explanation of how the $400,000 a year subsidy works.  While it is a countywide tax, the tax is NOT levied by the Winneshiek County Board, but is levied by the Winneshiek Medical Center Board itself.  This, of course, puts the same board in charge of levying the tax that is in charge of determining whether the tax is needed!

So, for those of you discussing this issue with the Winneshiek County Board, please talk with Winneshiek Medical Center Board of Trustees members instead.
