Bob Houlihan was a very successful businessman in Decorah for many years before his retirement. Over the years, the Houlihans have given back to the community both monetarily and with community service. When asked to donate toward a bridge for the Trout Run Trail, they didn't hesitate other than requesting that their gift be in memory of Katie Kuehner.
The Kuehner family was honored that the Houlihans felt so strongly about Katie and thought a reunion at the Trout Run Fish Hatchery Bridge was an appropriate way to thank the Houlihans. It was a symbolic sign that two eagles that nest near the fish hatchery flew only a few feet over the Kuehners and Houlihans as they stood on the bridge. They felt it was a sign from Katie that she knew they were gathered there.
The Trout Run Trail is still in need of financial support. Donations, large and small are welcome.
