Last week a reader asked about the protocol for early dismissals due to heat. His additional question was about the promotion of the upcoming bond referendum as it relates to the issue of early dismissals. Below are the facts related to the question. Beyond the general promotion of the bond referendum by interested parties such as 2FROMYOU, Mr. Answer Person does not know of promotion, per se, that is connected to early school dismissals.
Air conditioning is part of the intended high school renovation. According to Superintendent Mike Haluska, the high school would be both heated and cooled by a new HVAC system (geothermal) and both John Cline and West Side would then have their rooms air conditioned as well. This would virtually eliminate the need in the future for heat-related early dismissals.
On a related note, Mr. Answer Person adds that winter dismissals could also be an issue related to the referendum. Mr. Answer Person has heard numerous School Board and school administrator discussions relating to outdated and deteriorating heating and boiler systems that are vulnerable to breakdown.
