In another six weeks, Mechanic Street in Decorah should have a brand new look. Work on the reconstruction of one of Decorah's main streets began on Monday.
City Engineer Lindsay Erdman says crews are now working to replace the concrete on some of the intersections with Mechanic Street. The next step of the project will be to remove the old asphalt—the top two or three inches on the street—and then apply a layer of new asphalt.
In addition to repaving Mechanic Street, the project includes the resurfacing of two blocks of Main Street on either side of Mechanic Street.
Erdman says, depending on the weather, the project should be completed by the end of September.
