The owner of a house at 701 Maple Street in Decorah—Kay Strand—has been given 30 days to complete repairs to the building or face nuisance charges.
City council member Gary Rustad said that while the city wants to work with Strand in getting the building repaired, there has been "slow progress" in the past.
On Monday night the city council gave Strand until September 15th to put a roof and fix up the garage on the property; to finish making a street cut in the curb to allow driveway access; and to finish reseeding the boulevard in front of the house.
The city council also set a deadline of the end of October for Strand to complete the work of scraping and painting the house and garage.
