Bear Creek Watershed Advisory Board working on new project

The Bear Creek Watershed Advisory Board is using federal funds to pay for construction of two new dams on the Allen Patterson farm in rural Spring Grove.

The watershed lies in Winneshiek, Allamakee, Houston and Fillmore counties.  It has received $755,000 in funding from President Obama's stimulus act legislation.  The Bear Creek Advisory Board consists of local county board members and local Soil and Water Conservation District officials working across the state lines of Iowa and Minnesota in a cooperative effort to improve the water quality of Bear Creek.  Iowa NRCS State Conservationist Rich Simms and Minnesota NRCS State Conservationist Don Baloun visited the project Friday in an effort to publicize the work of the Watershed Board.
