Ask Mr. Answer Person: How will the winner be determined for the County Recorder election when three people are running?

Jim asks: "With three people now running forthe Winneshiek County Recorder's Office, does the person receiving the mostvotes in November win the election—even if they don't get 50 percent of thevotes—or is there a runoff between the top two finishers?

"Mr. Answer Person says: The public is alittle confused about this because there's a different rule in primaries and incity elections, where runoff elections are required if no candidate wins over50 percent of the votes cast.  But in county elections and in generalelections, which is what the County Recorder's Office election is, the rule issimple—the person getting the most votes wins.
