The Iowa State Patrol says 70-year-old Paul Estrem of Decorah was killed Wednesday in a car-bicycle accident around 4:20 p.m. one mile west of Highway 52 on  Conover Road.

The State Patrol has now released details of the accident.  It says a 1993 Dodge Dakota pickup being driven by 27-year-old Andrew Hackman of Spillville was westbound on Conover Road and struck Estrem's bike that was crossing Conover Road on the Prairie Farmer bike trail.

Unofficial reports say a vehicle heading in the other direction on Conover Road had kicked up a cloud of dust, obscuring visibility.  Hackman was not ticketed.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Calmar Police Department, Calmar Fire Department, Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office, Winneshiek county Ambulance and Winneshiek County First Responders.
