Ask Mr. Answer Person about the Decorah Swimming Pool's schedule

Posted: Wed, Aug 11, 2010 5:18 PM

Amy e-mails: "Can you find out why during this horrible heat wave the community pool will be closing so soon?  The pool is full and a wonderful asset to this area.  The school age children are not the only people who use our pool, nor are they the only people who are qualified to life guard it.  Please use your considerable influence to persuade the city to keep it open until at least Labor Day!"

Mr. Answer Person says: Uhm, I do NOT have "considerable influence!"  but, by coincidence, the Decorah Parks & Recreation Department has just announced it is extending the pool schedule.

You have to understand it's tough for the pool to have staffing once classes start at Decorah High School (and, to a lesser extent, at Luther College).  However, the Park-Rec Department will have a reduced pool schedule through August 29th, instead of closing for good on August 18th, as first announced.

Lap swimming will be held Monday through Friday 6:45 a.m. until 7:45 a.m., from noon until 1:00 p.m. and from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. (no evening hours on Friday, August 27th).  Adult aquacise classes will be held Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m., from noon until 1:00 p.m. and from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. (no evening hours Friday, August 27th)

The pool will be open for public swimming Saturday and Sunday, August 21st and 22nd.
