There are now three candidates for the office of Winneshiek County Recorder.  Teresa Bockman of Decorah on Monday announced her candidacy for the office as an independent.

Bockman worked in the Winneshiek County Treasurer's Office for 10 years.  She has also worked in the Decorah City Clerk's Office and the Decorah Water/Sewer Department for the last 15 years.

She and her husband Tom also own Your Place on Water Street in downtown Decorah.  Bockman has been active in several community groups, including 16 years with Nordic Dancers; a term as co-chair of the Decorah Viking Athletic Boosters; and as a member of St. Benedict's Church.

She joins Republican La Vonne Bjergum, who has served as Recorder since 1994, and Democrat Barb Ettleson, who previously announced plans to run for the office.

Said Bockman, "I believe that Winneshiek County residents deserve a Recorder's Office that operates efficiently and economically.  To accomplish this, I would like the opportunity to merge the existing office processes and procedures into a new system, using technology while maintaining the integrity of the office."
