Flashing red light to be given one month trial at Water Street and Winnebago

Posted: Tue, Aug 3, 2010 8:10 AM

The Decorah City Council has agreed to try a flashing red light at Water Street and Winnebago Street for a one month test period starting August 16th.  Street Committee Chair Gary Rustad says his committee agreed to the trial period so it could get public comment--both positivie and negative--on the idea.

The proposal was made by the Downtown Decorah Betterment Association, which said it was concerned about backups of westbound traffic on Water street waiting to turn left onto Winnebago Street.  Rustad said the Street Committee was concerned about pedestrian safety for the new system.

The trial period will run through September 13th.
