Republicans say they're targeting John Beard's State Assembly race

Is Decorah State Representative John Beard in danger of losing his re-election bid?  The website iowapolitics.com is quoting Republican Party of Iowa Chairman Matt Strawn as saying Beard's district is one of three districts that will be given top priority this fall by the Republicans.  "Republicans have a tremendous opportunity to win back the Iowa House, and the candidates we have give us a tremendous opportunity to win significant seats and knock on the door of winning back the Iowa Senate," said Strawn.

House Minority Leader Kraig Paulsen specifically named three state representatives--including John Beard of Decorah--that he believes could be in trouble.  Republicans enjoy a registration advantage in  House District #16, although Barack Obama carried the district handily in 2008.

Iowa Politics.com quotes House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy of Des Moines as saying "We feel good about our incumbents, we feel good about the work they do."  McCarthy said Democrats hope to hold all 56 of their seats and noted that it's very rare to lose more than one or two incumbents in an election.
