14 Winneshiek Medical Center volunteers have received the Governor's Volunteer Awards for their volunteer work at the hospital.
Anna Mae Kuhn, Maryann Baker, Dave Sweet, Mary Rodman, Maury Lenz, Betty Timmerman, Pat Wiest, Dick Wuest, Esther Timp, Beverly Christen, Shirlee Neubauer, Betty Nelson, Carol Nelson and Beverly Nichols received their awards at a ceremony held at the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center in Cedar Falls.
Governor Robert Ray started the Governor's Volunteer Awards in 1982 as a way to honor the service and time that volunteers give nonprofit organizations. Winneshiek Medical Center community programs coordinator Beth Holthaus nominated volunteers who had actively served the medical center for over 10 years and given over 1,000 hours of service. The Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) nominated three Winneshiek Medical Center volunteers for their length of service as well.
Holthaus said, "I am humbled every day to work with a group of people who willingly give of their time and talents to help others. The volunteers at Winneshiek Medical Center are an inspiring group of people."
