Northeast Iowa Community College has announced plans for the first solar thermal class offered in Iowa.
The 40-hour solar certification class starts Monday, August 23rd and runs through Monday, September 13th, with classes held in Dubuque and Peosta.
Solar thermal (using solar power to heat water) has consistently been the best use of solar energy based on studies done by all 50 states over the last 40 years. Solar Thermal for heating hot water has fast payback and low upfront costs. It is safe and easy to install when done with the proper knowledge, experience, and quality equipment.
However, there has been no formal solar thermal training and no solar thermal certification in the past. The class being offered by NICC is an opportunity to learn how to work with solar thermal and study all the applicable codes including the 2009 Uniform Solar Code that has been around since 1976. Working towards a solar thermal certificate is the final outcome of this class.
