A long list of creative writers will gather at Luther College in October for readings of their work and discussions about writing and the writer's life.  "The Vibrant Word: A Lutheran Festival of Writing" is scheduled for October 29th through October 31st at Luther.

The event celebrates the literary work done by practicing Lutherans, Lutheran writers teaching in non-Lutheran colleges, writers at ELCA colleges and a range of editors and publishers.  Through readings, lectures, panel discussions and an open-mike event, the three-day festival aims to support and encourage writers and to cultivate a community of writers and readers in the Lutheran world.

This year's festival keynote speakers are poet Robert Cording and writer Rene Steinke.  Also attending the festival will be writers Lauri Anderson, Nancy Barry, Jill Pelaez Baumgaertner, Jill Alexander Essbaum, David Faldet, Gary Fincke, Carol Gilbertson, Gracia Grindal, Patrick Hicks, Pamela Johnston, Thomas Maltman, Mark Mustian, David Oppegaard, Robert Schultz, Paul Shepherd, Walter Wangerin and Amy Weldon.

Poets participating in the conference will be John Graber, Barbara Crooker, Cass Dalglish, Philip Bryant, Diane LeBlanc, Vince Wixon, Susanna Childress, Katy Giebenhain, Joe Wilkins, Cary Waterman and Steven Schroeder.
