Concern about flooding on the Maquoketa River has led the Iowa DNR to move 77,000 rainbow trout from the Manchester Trout Hatchery to the Decorah and Big Spring hatcheries.
DNR spokesperson Dave Marolf said, "These fish were destined for those facilities later in the month anyway so we just got them there a little early."
At last report the Maquoketa River is within one foot of going over the retaining wall at the Manchester Trout Hatchery. Two years ago the Manchester Trout Hatchery lost 200,000 trout when the facility flooded.
