Decorah Police Chief Tom Courtney says it's time for him to retire. Courtney submitted a letter to Mayor Don Arendt on Monday, announcing his intention to step down from his job on October 15th.
The chief says it's been "a challenging and enjoyable job" to lead the police department. He notes that Decorah has been "a very good city to work in."
Courtney first served as a reserve officer, then was hired as a full-time officer in 1982. When Police Chief Ben Wyatt retired, Courtney was named as his replacement.
Arendt says he will put together a search committee to find a successor to Courtney.
