The Des Moines Register is reporting that just 18 new cities and counties have enrolled in the National Flood Insurance Program in Iowa since the floods of 2008. However, the City of Decorah is one of those 18 municipalities.
The Des Moines Register says 113 cities and counties in flood-hazard areas are not participating in the NFIP this year. In 2008, that number was 131. The Iowa Legislature has passed legislation encouraging communities to join the flood insurance program.
