Ask Mr. Answer Person: More about downtown trees

Jan asks Mr. Answer Man who waters the downtown trees?  If they are in such small capsules, they must need extra watering like the flowers do. but I doubt they get any.  No wonder they die off.  Who would be in charge of that watering?  Same people as those who water the flowers?   Seems the Lindsay Erdman makes the decisions when they should be replaced.  Does he get paid extra every time one is replaced?

Unlike the downtown flower baskets, the downtown trees are not watered, but survive from rainfall (which has been plentiful!).  For the most part, the trees are not dying because of a lack of water, but because their roots grow and take up all the space in the container.

City Engineer Lindsay Erdman does NOT make the decision on when downtown trees get replaced and does NOT get paid for replacing trees.  City Forester Drew Stevenson meets with members of the downtown SSMID board when he feels a tree needs replacing.  The SSMID Board, not Lindsay Erdman or someone else, makes the decision about replacing trees.
