Northeast Iowa RC & D receives state grant

Posted: Wed, Jul 7, 2010 5:41 PM

Northeast Iowa RC&D has been awarded an Iowa Cultural Coalition grant in a project that will use GPS units to map historic, cultural and art sites in Iowa.

Seven other RC&D councils across the state will partner with Northeast Iowa RC&D to use Global Positioning System units to mark the location of important historic, cultural, and art sites.  The grant funds provided by the Iowa Community Cultural Grant program will be used to hire part-time employees to assist with the effort.

The information collected through this newly funded project will provide important data for another project being led by Northeast Iowa RC&D, "Developing Iowa's Byways through GIS Technology," through which Northeast Iowa RC&D is providing GIS services.

Northeast Iowa RC&D's endeavors are supportive of a statewide initiative, the "Iowa Byways Sustainability Project," headed up by the Iowa DOT and the Iowa League of RC&Ds, to increase the profile and impact of Iowa's byways.
