With the upcoming 4th of July holiday, river recreation is at its peak. With river levels subsiding for the past week, and mostly good weather projected the river is likely to be full this weekend.
Luke Cote of River and Trail Outfitters says he expects a busy weekend. But he cautions that the river is still high, raising some safety concerns. He also notes that the Upper Iowa is a wild river and never safe, with hazards existing whether the water is high or low. He emphasizes that the river is "not a water park" and advises all water travelers to consider the ability levels of their group. And of course, watch the alcohol consumption.
