Further details are being released about construction on segment #11 of the Trout Run Trail running parallel to U.S. Highway 52.
Erdman Engineering spokesperson John Hjelle says 11 blasting shots will be set off to remove the bedrock along the bike trail. After meeting with the contractors again Tuesday morning, Hjelle says it appears likely that a small initial blast will be necessary at the end of this week.
Highway 52 will be closed to traffic from Highway 9 to Madison Road for brief periods during the blasting, which will be spaced over four weeks. Motorists should expect delays.
Pedestrian access to the west end of the Phelps Park Trail and the concrete spillway will be prohibited. Hjelle is encouraging the public to stay clear of the work zone, saying there will be very little to see. He also says the public's patience during this construction activity is most appreciated.
