A Burr Oak woman--Cindy Remick--Thursday afternoon won $250,000 from the Iowa Lottery.
Remick entered the Casey's store on Old Stage Road shortly after 2:00 p.m. Thursday and bought a single ticket in the lottery's "Cash Blowout Bonanza." She left the store and scratched off the numbers on the ticket. Not believing what she saw, she re-entered the store and asked clerk Randy Stahl "Could you check these numbers?" He entered the numbers into the Iowa Lottery machine at Casey's--and it printed a receipt for $250,000. "Whoa!" said Stahl.
Remick says she doesn't know yet how she'll spend the money, although she says she's likely to buy several presents for her grandchildren. She will head to the Iowa Lottery offices in Des Moines on Friday to claim her prize.
Remick is a frequent customer at the Old Stage Road Casey's, visiting at least once a day and buying an Iowa Lottery ticket once or twice a week. Said Stahl about Remick, "It couldn't have happened to a nicer person."
