Boy Scout Troop 66 agrees to take over maintenance of Decorah welcome sign

City of Decorah officials say Boy Scout Troop 66 has agreed to take over the maintenance of the Decorah welcome sign on Montgomery Street.

City officials have had problems with weeds at the welcome sign in recent years.  Boy Scout Troop 66 adult leader Cy Nelson says troop members will weed the garden in front of the sign at least twice each year.  They are also consulting with city officials and with landscaping experts to slightly redesign the current garden so it is easier to maintain.

Donald Spieker, a Boy Scout troop member from Cresco who attends Decorah High School, will coordinate the welcome sign project for his Eagle Scout project.  Adult volunteers will work with Boy Scout Troop 66 members on the weeding and gardening.
