May was slightly warmer and drier than average

Decorah weather statistician Richard Bernatz has released the May weather statistics for Decorah. These include:

Temperatures for May

– Record Temperatures : max of 92◦ F on the 24th (previous record : 90◦ F in 1928), maximum  minimum of 73◦ F on the 24th (previous record : 67◦ F in 1991), maximum of 88◦ F tied the record  set in 1955.
– Average temperature : 60.0◦ F (1.3◦ F warmer than average)
– Warmest temperature : 92◦ F on the 24th and 25th
– Coldest temperature : 28◦ F on the 9th

 Precipitation in May

– Total precipitation for May 2010 : 3.91 inches, 0.24 inches less than the average  precipitation of 4.15 inches
– Ten days with measurable precipitation - average number is eleven days
– Greatest 24-hour total : 1.83 inches on the 13th
– No snowfall in May 2010
