Peter Jorgensen has the latest suggestion for a town slogan--and I think it's a good one. His suggestion is to call Decorah "Trails Town, Iowa."
Why this slogan? He points out that Decorah features art trails with area art studios; biking and hiking trails, both paved and unpaved; and river trails where people can relax in a canoe or a kayak.
The suggested slogan is based on the recommendations of tourism consultant roger Brooks, who believes a community has to find something concrete to pitch to visitors and not a general slogan like "You'll like Decorah."
The problem with a specific slogan is that if you promote trails, you risk alienating museums. If you don't mention stores and restaurants, you risk alienating them.
Still, this seems like a good way to promote not just the Trout Run Trail, but off-road trails, art studios and canoeing and kayaking. Does anyone else have other suggestions?
