The project to complete the Trout Run Trail is still roughly $800,000 short of the money it needs.
Thursday night members of a city council committee raised the possibility of a temporary completion of the trail--one that would not include a bridge over Highway 9, but would have a temporary road crossing at grade.
The $800,000 needs to be raised by next spring to be in time for construction of the bridge. Trail supporters are planning to apply for a state DOT trail grant which, if approved, would bring in anywhere from $500,000 to $750,000. "We're not going to stop writing grants, we're not going to stop raising money," TOW member Mike Huinker told city council members.
